The EU Ecodesign Regulation (ESPR, EU 2024/1781) sets the framework for the digital product passport: a product's material, repairability, recycling and supply-chain information will travel in a passport reached by QR. Which product group needs a passport from which date is set step by step by product-specific delegated acts.
Bella DPP creates the passport, links it to the product by QR and serves it from a public endpoint. The data model, validation rules and version management are built in; as a product group's requirements are published, the template is configured to match them.

- ESPR in force
- The Ecodesign Regulation (EU 2024/1781) sets the framework for the digital product passport.
- Product-group timeline
- The passport obligation comes through product-specific delegated acts. The first ESPR delegated act, for iron and steel, is expected to be adopted in the last quarter of 2026; textiles are expected by the end of 2027.
- Batteries
- For certain battery types under the Batteries Regulation (EU 2023/1542), the battery passport is mandatory from 18 February 2027.
- EU registry
- The EU DPP registry, where passports are recorded, went live in July 2026.

Who does the digital product passport concern?+
ESPR sets the framework for the passport; the obligation arrives step by step by product group through delegated acts. For batteries, a battery passport is required from 18 February 2027 under the Batteries Regulation. For other product groups the timeline becomes clear when the relevant act is published; EU exporters start preparing data early.
How is the passport linked to the product?+
A unique QR code and permanent address are generated for each product or batch; consumers scan the QR to reach the public passport page.
What happens to the passport when the product changes?+
The passport is versioned and its history is preserved. Missing or conflicting data is caught before the passport is published.
